In his lifetime, Ralph Waldo Emerson became the most widely known man of letters in America, establishing himself as a prolific poet, essayist, popular lecturer, and advocate of social reforms.

Emerson was a major influence on Ernest Holmes the author of The Science of Mind and founder of Religious Science.
