Free 15-Minute Consultation

I provide a 15-minute free consultation known as the Introductory Conversation. The Introductory Conversation is a great starting point. It a great time to find out if we can work together. I may also have some useful personal advice for you.

Coming Full Circle

My blog has undergone quite a few changes since my first post in 2006. (You can find my posts here and my pages here here if you want to explore.)

Now in September 2019, I seem to have come full circle going back to focus on spiritual things as I did when I began to study for a Bachelor of Theology degree at McGill University in 1970. While I was studying theology and comparative religion I was working as a bouncer in a Montreal bar. Hahaha. An interesting dichotomy. 🙂

Telling My Story

My goal with my blog now is to follow the advice given to me some years ago by a Medicine Man from Zimbabwe Mandaza Kandemwa who told me:

“You are an elder and you need to, you must, begin to tell your story.”

His words surprised me as I didn’t feel or think that I was an Elder as I looked around a room in which many of the men and women present were people who I considered Elders were present. Many of them looked at me and smiled.

Some Basics About Richard Ward

In sharing my story perhaps you will find some of my experiences helpful in your own life, so let’s start with some basics about me. A more detailed bio of me can be found here.

I am a Canadian born in Montreal, Quebec in 1948. I moved back to Montreal in 2016 after living in Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, and Beijing.

Having been around for more than 70 years now (2019) I have a lot of stories to tell as I have had quite a few experiences. I have not followed a straight path. As I mentioned I worked as a bouncer in a bar as I was studying theology.

In hindsight, it seems as if I have been wandering in circles, trying this and that, but always coming back to things spiritual.

And I have made a lot of mistakes. Perhaps you can learn from my mistakes.

Lots of adventures.

Underpinning my experience over the last few decades are a number of health related issues. I have been:

I have been a Reiki practitioner since 1992.

Over the years I have received training in Core Shamanism, Christianity, Druidry, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), I Ching, Feng Shui, Pure Land Buddhism, Tantra, Taoism, Tibetan Buddhism, and more.

I hope that I am successful in sharing my interests with you in a meaningful and useful manner.

Looking Forward to Connecting

I am looking forward to connecting with you here on my blog.

Intuitive Consulting Session

An Ask Me! Intuitive Consulting Career Life Coaching Session with Richard has 3 parts plus Follow-Up. We meet using the phone or Skype.

We have already talked to each other during the Introductory Conversation and completed our preparatory work together so we are ready to dive in and explore.

Let’s take a looksee at the steps in the Sounding Board Coaching process. The three (3) parts are:

  1. Preparation before session
  2. Meditation
  3. Conversation

1 – Preparation Before Session

Before you call-in begin to think about what it is that you want to explore in the session.

Make notes.

Write down the question you want to talk about.

There is nothing like writing something down – by hand on paper – to help find clarity.

Writing in your Journal is a good idea.

2 – Meditation

We begin our session after you call in with a brief 3-minute meditation.

Although this is only a very brief meditation, ihis serves to help us clear our minds, bring our minds into the moment, and get insync with each other and our intuition.

3 – Conversation

During a Sounding Board session:

  • I listen to you – to your ideas and opinions.
  • I give my perspective if needed.
  • I give you my feedback.
  • I give back to you the ideas that come to me from what you are talking about.

This process is often referred to as brainstorming.

Hear Yourself

Many times what we all need is simply for someone to listen to us, to let us talk out loud with someone to listen, so that we can hear ourselves think.

We need to ‘get out of our head’ and listen to ourselves. We need to hear ourselves.

As we talk out loud about our ideas we can often hear ourselves think.

As we listen the answer we need often comes to mind.

Sometimes it because a question that I have asked has served as a catalyst.

Follow-Up

After an Intuitive Consulting Session questions and ideas will often bubble into our minds. Often the same day or later. When this happens write in your journal. After sleeping on the questions, ideas, and thoughts you may want to have a brief 10 minute chat.

The starting point, and foundation, for working with clients is a free 20 minute Introductory Conversation.

Book a time with me and we will talk.

How we can work together

Over the decades I have developed some basic terms and conditions for managing our scheduled sounding board and consulting sessions so that our time together provides you with maximum benefits. Please review these Sounding Board terms and conditions.

Jonn Mumford – Swami Anandakapila Saraswati

Dr. Jonn Mumford (Swami Anandakapila Saraswati) is known and respected around the world for his knowledge, scholarship, dynamic teaching style and extensive practical experience in Kriya Yoga, Jyotish and Tantra.

Jonn Mumford, Swami Anandakapila Saraswati , Mysticism is the immediate experience of ultimate universal unity

I studied very briefly with Dr. Mumford through an online course. An excellent course that he was directly involved in teaching.

Dr. Mumford uniquely qualified to communicate the secrets of Tantra to the Western world due to his depth and breadth of experience including training in chiropractic and psychology, many years of practice as an osteopathic physician, advanced training in a wide range of Eastern disciplines, and many years of teaching in Australia, India and the United States.

Dr. Mumford is a direct disciple of Yogamaharishi Dr. Swami Gitananda Giri GuruMaharaj (South India) and Paramhansa Swami Satyananda Saraswati, Bihar. He was initiated by Swami Satyananda Saraswati in 1973, at BSY Monghyr, Bihar State, India.

Dr. Jonn Mumford wrote his first book Psychosomatic Yoga in 1961 while completing an intensive period of yogic study in India.

His renowned 1975 book Sexual Occultism, later revised and issued as Ecstasy Through Tantra, was among the very first books to introduce Westerners to traditional, left-hand Tantra from the perspective of an initiate. This book and Dr. Mumford’s public teaching at Llewellyn Publications 1976 Gnosticon conference inspired an entire generation of Western Tantra teachers.

Tibetan Buddhism

I was introduced to Tibetan Buddhism through the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Tibetan Buddhism, sometimes referred to as Lamaism, is the form of Mahayana Buddhism that developed in Tibet and the surrounding Himalayan region beginning in the 7th century CE.

Tibetan Buddhism incorporates Madhyamika and Yogacara philosophy, Tantric symbolic rituals, Theravadin monastic discipline and the shamanistic features of the indigenous religion, Bön.

Among its most unique characteristics are its system of reincarnating lamas and the vast number of deities in its pantheon.

Buddhist Sacred Texts

Between the 11th and 14th centuries, the Tibetans translated every available Buddhist text into Tibetan. Today, many Buddhist works that have been lost in their original Sanskrit survive only in Tibetan translation.

Distinctive Beliefs of Tibetan Buddhism

In common with Mahayana schools, Tibetan Buddhism includes a pantheon of Buddhas, bodhisattvas, and Dharma protectors. Arya-bodhisattvas are able to escape the cycle of death and rebirth but compassionately choose to remain in this world to assist others in reaching nirvana or buddhahood.

Dharma protectors are mythic figures incorporated into Tibetan Buddhism from various sources (including the native Bön religion, and Hinduism) who are pledged to protecting and upholding the Dharma. Many of the specific figures are unique to Tibet.

Four Schools of Tibetan Buddhism

There are four principal schools within modern Tibetan Buddhism:

  1. Gelug (Geluk, “School of the Virtuous”), also called the Yellow Hats, is the youngest of the Tibetan schools, but is today the largest and the most important.
  2. Kagyü (“Oral Transmission School”;) is the third largest school of Tibetan Buddhism. Its teachings were brought to Tibet by Marpa the Translator, an 11th century Tibetan householder who traveled to India to study under the master yogin Naropa and gather Buddhist scriptures.
  3. Nyingma (“School of the Ancients”) is the oldest of the Tibetan Buddhist schools and the second largest after Geluk. The Nyingma school is based primarily on the teachings of Padmasambhava, who is revered by the Nyingma school as the “second Buddha.”
  4. Sakya is today the smallest of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. It is named for the Sakya (“Gray Earth”) monastery in southern Tibet. The abbots were devoted to the transmission of a cycle of Vajrayana teachings called “path and goal” (Lamdre), the systemization of Tantric teachings, and Buddhist logic.
