Recommended Reading and Audio in Shamanism

Following are my Recommended Reading and Audio in Shamanism.

I have read the books and listened to the audio listed.

Shamananism has been practiced worldwide for some 10,000 years although the names of the practice, and the practitioners, is specific to the culture in which it is found.

Recommended Reading and Audio in Shamanism

My shamanic practice in my daily life is based on Core Shamanism, Celtic Shamanism, and shamanic practices from my teachers from other cultures including Mexico, Zimbabwe, Canada, the UK, and the USA, that they have shared with me either directly or through the books and audios listed on this page.

Celtic Shamanism in particular resonated with me as my ancestral background is Scottish, Welsh, English, Russian, and Finnish.

Core Shamanism

As my shamanic practice is based on Core Shamanism I recommend beginning with two books by Michael Harner the founder of the The Foundation for Shamanic Studies:

  1. The Way of the Shaman, and his follow-up
  2. Cave and Cosmos.

These two books will give you a solid insight into the history of shamanism and Core Shamanism as well as providing you with instructions on how to begin to add shamanic practice to your life.

The book is a set of philosophical musings on the power of our thoughts.

As A Man Thinketh is partly responsible for the creation of the entire personal development industry.

In this classic book, As a Man Thinketh describes how each of us shapes the events around us, creating our own lives in abundance.

As James Allen writes of his book:

“It shows how, in his own thought-world, each man holds the key to every condition, good or bad, that enters into his life, and that, by working patiently and intelligently upon his thoughts, he may remake his life, and transform his circumstances. …and it can be carried in the pocket.”

My Points of Reference

My Points of Reference include the teachings, philosophies, practices, books, personal experiences and other resources and on the paths that I follow, the paths that I have followed or experiences that have helped to shape me.

I have also crossed paths either directly or indirectly with wonderful teachers, guides and mentors.

There is a growing list of links to interesting and informative websites in my links directory Richard’s Directory.

Personal growth and development, spiritual growth and development, are an ongoing daily process. And there are many paths that can be followed. As well, there are many experiences that we have that we never anticipated or planned for, that shape us and direct us along a particular path.

All of us are influenced by so much that we are aware of and more importantly unaware of. These are a few of the things that I am aware of.
